DÍA DEL TANGO Weekend – Sofia 2016Tanguerin2019-09-11T16:50:10+00:00
Día Del Tango Weekend
is a 3 day event offshoot of the Día(s) Del Tango Festival which we organised in 2015. It is also our traditional annual celebration of the Día Del Tango, the birthday of Carlos Gardel and Julio De Caro which is also the National Day of Tango in Argentina and an unofficial international day of tango.
For various reasons this year we decided not to organize a big festival for the occasion. Instead, we invite you to a more intimate but still full of high-quality tango weekend featuring 3 evening milongas with shows, one after-milonga, one chillout afternoon milonga and a special extra-long workshop.
The shows at the milongas will be performed by some of the finest dancers and teachers coming from our region and 4 awesome DJs to entertain us with their selection of tangos, milongas and valses. We will finish the weekend with our traditional Gran Milonga on the Day of Tango with a gala show by our special guests Loukas Balokas and Georgia Priskou.
This year we decided to celebrate the Dia Del Tango by inviting a renowned couple of maestros to give a single extra-long workshop (2 hours) which we have called the DIA DEL TANGO MASTERCLASS! The aim of the workshop is to contribute to the understanding of the link between the dance and the music of tango and to help participants master and improve the musicality of their dancing. The workshop will take place on 10th December, Saturday, from 4 pm until 6 pm in the House of Moscow on 96 Rakovski St. in Sofia. Registration is in couples only. The fee per couple is 50 lv./25 EUR until 30th November and 60 lv./30 EUR afterwards. To register scroll down to the registration form below.
A few words about the maestros:
LOUKAS BALOKAS and GEORGIA PRISKOU are an immensely talented tango couple with technique, style and depth of expression that only the finest dancers of tango possess. They are based in Athens where they regularly share their love and knowledge of tango at their school tangoFIX. They went together to their first tango class in 2000 and since then their life has been bound to the dance of tango. They are constantly working with some of the most important tango dancers of our time and make regular long trips to Buenos Aires which play a major role in their dancing culture and evolution. After years of practicing and exploring the fields of improvisation and choreography, they have developed their own personal style, approaching classical tango with a contemporary view. The unmistakable characteristics of their dance are musicality, speed, alterations in the dynamic of the movement and intense dramatic elements.Their fame has reached well beyond their native country and in the last years they have been working tirelessly and passionately around the world of tango by giving workshops, participating in festivals and starring as dancers and choreographers in many theatrical shows.
